three parts vied is a flexible collective of chamber musicians who sing and play the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They’ve performed for Music for the Moment at Wigmore Hall, underground at the Brunel Museum, in Borough Road Gallery, at SJE Arts in Oxford, and with NMH in Chichester Cathedral, in Bach’s stunning Magnificat.
Lamento weaves trio sonatas by Buxtehude with impassioned meditations by Rosenmüller and Biber for countertenor, culminating in Schmelzer’s astonishing celebration of the life of Ferdinand III. The viola da gamba provides a central thread, partnering with voice, violin, and viola in turn.
